Foreword from the Management Board

Annual Report
2020 - 2021

DEAR READERS →→→ For over a year now, the coronavirus pandemic has been dominating headlines and life worldwide. At DEKRA, we have also not been able to avoid the consequences. For the first time in over 15 years, we have recorded a drop in revenue. However, we have made good use of our time in these exceptional circumstances, and are well-prepared for the future. When the pandemic ends, we will hit the ground running, and soon we will be back on track for long-term growth.

FOREWORD

MANAGEMENT BOARD

Our new organizational structure has proven to be an advantage in the crisis. From audits to vehicle inspections to certifications, all the varied services that we offer have been grouped together in eight Service Divisions, and will be developed further on an ongoing basis. Boosted by a systematic focus on internationalization, we now provide services in many parts of the world. Our 44,000 employees in six regions enable us to access diverse markets.

Dividing our work into regions and Service Divisions fosters both customer centricity and innovation. Both of those have contributed to our positive response, despite the losses, to the difficult circumstances in 2020. As such, even in this difficult year, we have taken another step toward our goal of being the global partner for a safe world.

As far as the future is concerned, we need to take advantage of all the opportunities that digitalization offers. Therefore, even during this crisis, we invested 108 million euros and created more new skilled jobs (without the business area of temporary work). Whether it’s testing, inspection, or certification: Intelligent and networked products and services and digital processes are playing an increasingly significant role in more and more sectors. You can find out more about this under the “Stories” in this first all-digital annual report.

2020 presented us with major challenges, which we generally managed well. In fact, we have used the crisis to sharpen our focus on the key areas for us over the coming years. We have used our strengths to prepare for the time after the pandemic. We are continuing to work consistently on realizing our “Vision 2025”: By our 100th anniversary in 2025, we will have digitalized all our services and processes, and will also be the global partner for a safe world.

Join us as we continue this journey to maximize safety.

By our 100th anniversary in 2025, we will have digitalized all our services and processes, and will also be the global partner for a safe world.
