An All-Round Success

Annual Report
2020 - 2021

ECOVADIS PLATINUM →→→ DEKRA thinks and acts sustainably. This applies to the many services that customers use to reduce their environmental impact, for example. However, it also applies to the DEKRA sustainability strategy, which recently received an award from the leading rating system.

STRATEGY 2025

What is round and makes a sustainable impact? The “Platinum” rating from EcoVadis, a leading international standard for sustainability. Receiving this award shows that DEKRA is in the top 1% of companies in their category ranked. “The EcoVadis rating confirms that our sustainability strategy is on track to be a success,” says DEKRA board member Wolfgang Linsenmaier, who is also responsible for sustainability at DEKRA.

As the leading non-listed company in the TIC sector (Testing, Inspection, Certification), DEKRA stands behind its environmental and social responsibility. “In 2020, we were able to leap from a silver rating – skipping gold – straight to platinum, within a year. We improved notably in all four of the areas for evaluation: Environment, Workers’ and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. We see this as an impetus for us to keep improving ourselves in the area of sustainability,” says Linsenmaier.

With its sustainability strategy for the year 2025, DEKRA is setting itself ambitious and measurable goals in all the relevant areas – from its CO2 footprint and renewable energy to employee engagement, diversity, and occupational safety, to social commitment and its supply chain. DEKRA is helping to realize the vision of a sustainable global economy based on the principles of the “UN Global Compact.” It is also supporting the ‘RE100’ initiative. In this initiative, companies are committing to only using electricity from renewable energy sources by 2050. “DEKRA will already reach this goal by 2025,” says Linsenmaier.

Sustainability Services

“We are not just working to improve our own internal sustainability management, we are also systematically expanding our portfolio of sustainability services to support our customers with innovative solutions,” says Linsenmaier. These include sustainability consulting and training programs as well as services relating to product and supply chain sustainability, carbon accounting, and sustainability standards in sport.

EcoVadis Standard

The leading international standard for sustainability in global value-added chains, EcoVadis, is among the leading rating systems for sustainability, having evaluated over 65,000 businesses in over 160 countries.

For example, DEKRA has developed the “sustainClub” standard for professional sport together with the Swiss organization sustainable///sports. This involves setting up a sustainability management system, carrying out a sustainability analysis, and identifying concrete opportunities for improvement.

It’s proving to be an all-round success as, to date, six professional soccer clubs have taken part in the “sustainClub” sustainability certification, namely: VfL Wolfsburg, Bayer 04 Leverkusen, FC St. Pauli, SC Paderborn 07, SV Werder Bremen, and VfB Stuttgart. The clubs can use the designation to demonstrate their commitment to a better future in the three areas of sustainability: economy, ecology, and social aspects.

The “sustainClub” certification is the first and only recognized standard and guiding framework for sustainability in professional soccer.
